John Smalley

John Graduated from Duke with a bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering with the aerospace certificate in the class of 2023, and is currently an MS student in the class of 2024. He loves both aspects of engineering, computational and physical. He was the president of Duke AERO and now serves as a graduate advisor to the team. John can often be found in the Foundry or machine shop working on parts for the rocket, and hopes to integrate skills he learns in the aeroelasticity group into that team. Outside of school and his career, he loves spending time outdoors, working on personal projects, watching Football and Hockey, and playing video games.

Research Interests

John is part of Dr. Dowell's research group studying the unsteady behavior of pressure distribution of an airfoil and other geometries given an arbitrary motion, operating the Duke Wind Tunnel and comparing results with computational models.
